Eagle Scout project wraps up with dedication ceremony

After months of hard work, a Point Pleasant teen has completed a project in the borough that will land him in the coveted and respected role of an Eagle Scout.

Daniel Coviello, 17, officially finished up his work in beautifying the piece of property known as Treeneedle Triangle, with a dedication ceremony on Sunday morning.

Along with the celebration of completing his Eagle Scout project, which was approved by the borough council in January, Daniel used the time to dedicate the two benches on the property to some individuals who made an impact on his life.

One of the benches was named for Daniel's grandmother, Sharon Coviello, who passed away several years ago.

The other was made in honor of Craig Redman, a former Point Pleasant resident who Daniel said was a good friend to Troop 16 before his passing one year ago.

"The dedication went very well," said Daniel. "We had a good turnout and it went pretty smoothly."

Surrounded by his family and members of the community, Daniel was able to officially introduce the project that he has been working on for so long.

The plan to make the piece of land "more appealing" came as a result of a recommendation from the borough's Environmental Commission. To date, the commission has worked with Scouts vying for the Eagle Scout designation a total of four times.

Daniel was able to clean up the area of Treeneedle Triangle, which is located off of Bridge Avenue, mulch the area, add some flowers, a trash can and the benches in an effort to make the area suitable fore residents to use.

"I have spoken to some people who said they used to eat their lunch in their cars but will now come out and sit on the benches," said Daniel.

While the process of getting the project completed was stressful at times, Daniel said it has ultimately lifted him to his goal — to become an Eagle Scout.

"It's definitely a weight off my shoulders, but I have aspired to be an Eagle Scout for a long time and now I will have that chance," said Daniel. "I am also happy that now people will have a nice place to go."
