Commission Launches user-friendly Web site

The Point Pleasant Environmental Commission has become more technologically advanced through the help of a local college student, who recently designed a Web site for the organization.

According to Sheryl Burke, the chair of the commission, the new site, www.env.ptboro.com, is officially up and running, with several links to meeting dates, photos and important borough environmental information.

The Web site was designed free of charge by borough resident Brian Parks, 20, who previously worked with the commission in developing his Eagle Scout project. Mr. Parks worked to develop the Natural Resources Inventory, which is listed in its entirety on the site.

"Brian did such a beautiful job," said Ms. Burke. "He is such a go-getter and really did unbelievable work with the site."

Mr. Parks was asked to develop and maintain the site after speaking with Ms. Burke, who learned he was studying Web design at Lehigh University.

The student began working on the site when he arrived home from school this summer.

"The commission was really open to putting the site together," said Mr. Parks. "So, when they asked me to help them out, I said yes."

The site offers a plethora of information, including meeting dates and minutes, information on past and upcoming Earth Day events, the natural resource inventory and a photo gallery.

Ms. Burke said it was important for the commission to have Web site because the online presence allows the group to get a large amount of information out in an easy and effective manner.

"In this day and age, people are always on the Web, so now they can search the site at their leisure," she said. "We are all very excited about it."

Though most of the layout and general design of the site is complete, Mr. Parks said it will always be a "work in progress."

"It is just the nature of the Internet that nothing is ever actually finished. Something is always changing," he said.

Mr. Parks said he will continue to maintain the site while he is back in school.
